About

Hi! My name is Danielle Bacibianco, you can call me Dani! My pronouns are she/her. I am an Adjunct Professor of English and Women and Gender Studiesn at Kean University.

My dissertation, “Queerstory of Recovery: Literacy and Survival in A.A. (2021)”, received the 2022 Conference on College Composition and Communication Lavender Rhetorics Award for Excellence in Queer Scholarship Dissertation Award.

As an extension of this work, my research addresses the urgency of queer-affirming research practices in community literacy, addiction recovery studies, and public rhetoric.

As an educator in higher ed., I teach courses that involve interdisciplinary and qualitative methods of research in my writing courses, while also blending rhetoric and composition studies, community engagement, women, gender, and queer studies, and addiction recovery community literacy.

This image portrays the original artwork by Osiris Gutierrez on February 4, 2026, @osiristattoos as on Instagram, that was specifically designed to portray Dr. Danielle Bacibianco in her full gender non-conforming lesbian badass researcher self. This graphic artwork visually interprets themes from the author’s research agenda, translating conceptual inquiry into symbolic imagery and visual structure. As such, this original work is being used with permission.

As of April 2020, I am a co-founder of the online sober initiative on Discord, “Sober Academics” (previously named “We Academics”), and I am also the founder of the podcasts, Queerstories of Recovery: Voices from the Margin, and the former, Voices from Rock Bottom via Maker Park Radio – NYC.

As a queer, sober academic, I’m currently at work on a book project that bridges the personal and the political, the institutional, and the intimate through autoethnography.

Stay tuned for more scholarly adventures!
